Anyone can apply for lessons no matter their age, background or experience. No minimum skill level is required and our programs cater to participants of all skill levels, from complete beginners to those looking to refine their swimming techniques.
When it comes to lessons, we simply ask that you pay what you can afford. You choose a price to pay for each lesson and that money will be donated straight back into the foundation.
If you come from a low-income background, we offer lessons for free, striving to break down financial barriers and make swimming accessible for all.
You must be at least 5 years of age to be eligable for lessons.
Lesson times vary due to teacher and student availabilty, however we will always do our best to work around you. Most lessons are between 1-2 hours.
Learning to swim can vary greatly from person to person depending on factors such as comfort in the water, physical ability, and previous experience. However, with regular practice and proper instruction, many people can become comfortable in the water and learn basic swimming skills within a few weeks to a few months.
For an adult with no fear of the water or physical limitations, it's possible to learn how to swim within 20-25 hours of lessons. For children, it takes slightly longer at around 20-30 hours of lessons.
In our lessons we aim to help children and adults achieve Swim England’s minimum water competency standards. Once you've achieved these standards you'll be a competent swimmer.
For Children that means being able to do the following:
Perform a star float for at least 60 seconds
Tread water for at least 30 seconds
Have experience of swimming in clothing
Swim at least 100 metres with ease and without stopping
For Adults that means being able to do the following:
Swim at least 100 metres with ease and without stopping
Tread water for at least 2 minutes
You'll need a swimming costume, googles and swim cap. All of which can be provided for you if you can't afford them.
We offer both group and one-to-one lessons, providing flexibility based on your preferences and learning style.
